Default events & tags

This document outlines the default events and taggings configured in Data Mapper for Mailchimp to facilitate seamless syncing of Stripe data to your Mailchimp audience. These settings enable you to track key customer activities and apply relevant tags for segmentation and automation purposes.

Default Events

The following events are automatically tracked and synced to your Mailchimp audience when enabled in the Events & Tags section of the app’s settings. Each event includes a specific data point stored for use in Mailchimp campaigns or analytics.

  • Charge Failed:

    • Event Name: stripe_charge_failed

    • Data Stored: amount (the amount of the failed charge)

    • Description: Triggered when a charge attempt in Stripe fails, allowing you to follow up with customers for payment issues.

  • Charge Refunded:

    • Event Name: stripe_charge_refunded

    • Data Stored: amount_refunded (the refunded amount)

    • Description: Captures when a charge is refunded, useful for tracking customer refunds and updating campaign strategies.

  • Charge Succeeded:

    • Event Name: stripe_charge_succeeded

    • Data Stored: amount_captured (the amount successfully charged)

    • Description: Records successful charge completions, enabling targeted campaigns based on purchase activity.

  • Invoice Finalized:

    • Event Name: stripe_invoice_created

    • Data Stored: amount_due (the total amount due on the invoice)

    • Description: Tracks when an invoice is finalized in Stripe, helping you monitor billing cycles and customer obligations.

  • Invoice Paid:

    • Event Name: stripe_invoice_paid

    • Data Stored: amount_paid (the amount paid on the invoice)

    • Description: Logs when an invoice is paid, useful for confirming customer payments and triggering post-payment automations.

  • Quote Finalized:

    • Event Name: stripe_quote_created

    • Data Stored: amount_total (the total amount of the quote)

    • Description: Captures finalized quotes, allowing you to track potential sales and engage customers with follow-up campaigns.

Default Taggings

The following tags are automatically applied to customers in your Mailchimp audience based on their subscription status in Stripe. These tags help you segment your audience for targeted marketing, such as reaching active subscribers or re-engaging former ones.

  • Active Subscription Created:

    • Tag: stripe-active_subscriber

    • Description: Applied when a customer starts an active subscription in Stripe, identifying them as a current subscriber for relevant campaigns.

  • Inactive Subscription Created:

    • Tag: stripe-former_subscriber

    • Description: Assigned when a customer’s subscription is created but marked as inactive, useful for tracking lapsed subscribers.

  • Subscription Updated to Active:

    • Tag: stripe-active_subscriber

    • Description: Applied when an existing subscription is updated to active status, ensuring accurate segmentation of current subscribers.

  • Subscription Updated to Inactive:

    • Tag: stripe-former_subscriber

    • Description: Assigned when a subscription is updated to inactive, helping you identify customers who may need re-engagement.

  • Subscription Deleted:

    • Tag: stripe-former_subscriber

    • Description: Applied when a subscription is deleted in Stripe, marking the customer as a former subscriber for appropriate follow-up.

Configuration and support

To enable or customize these events and taggings, visit the Events & Tags section in the Data Mapper for Mailchimp settings page. You can select which events to sync and adjust tagging preferences to align with your marketing strategy. For manual syncing of this data, use the Sync Now button in the app’s Manual Sync section.
