Sync your Stripe products and subscriptions

Syncing Products to a Mailchimp Store with Data Mapper for Mailchimp

Data Mapper for Mailchimp enables businesses to sync products from their Stripe account to a Mailchimp store, allowing these products to be utilized in Mailchimp’s marketing tools, such as customer journeys and audience segmentation. Below is an explanation of how product syncing works and the requirements for successful integration.

Requirements for Syncing Products

To ensure products are properly synced from your Stripe account to your Mailchimp store, the following conditions must be met:

  • Currency Alignment: All products in Stripe must have prices set in the same currency as the Mailchimp store, which defaults to the currency of your Stripe account (e.g., USD). For example, if your Stripe account operates in USD, all product prices must be in USD to sync correctly.

  • Stripe-Hosted Products: Products, including those tied to subscriptions, must be created and managed within your Stripe account. Data Mapper cannot sync products from third-party platforms that only send payment data to Stripe.

  • Subscriptions as Products: In the Mailchimp store, Stripe subscriptions are treated as products. Each subscription plan in Stripe is synced as a distinct product, including its pricing and details.

How Product Syncing Works

Product syncing with Data Mapper for Mailchimp is designed to be automatic and seamless, with the following process:

  1. Store Creation Triggers Syncing: When you create a Mailchimp store during the onboarding process or via the Purchases & Products section of the app’s Settings page, product syncing is automatically enabled. The store’s currency is set to match your Stripe account’s default currency.

  2. Automatic Real-Time Syncing: Once the store is created, Data Mapper automatically syncs products from Stripe to the Mailchimp store in real time. This includes:

    • New Products: Any new product created in Stripe is immediately synced to the Mailchimp store.

    • Updated Products: Changes to existing products, such as price or description updates, are reflected in the Mailchimp store.

    • Deleted Products: If a product is deleted in Stripe, it is removed from the Mailchimp store to maintain consistency.

Using Synced Products in Mailchimp

Synced products enhance your marketing capabilities in Mailchimp:

  • Customer Journeys: All synced products, including subscriptions, can be used to create automated customer journeys. For example, you can trigger emails when a customer purchases a specific product or subscribes to a plan.

  • Audience Segmentation: Leverage product data to segment your audience based on purchase history, such as targeting customers who purchased specific items or subscribed to certain plans.

  • Analytics and Reporting: Synced products contribute to Mailchimp’s predictive analytics, enabling you to track revenue and customer behavior associated with specific products or subscriptions.

Additional Notes

  • Ensure all products and subscriptions are managed directly in Stripe to avoid syncing issues. Third-party platforms that handle products or subscriptions externally will not provide the necessary data for syncing.

  • Verify that product prices in Stripe match the store’s currency to prevent errors during syncing.

  • If you encounter issues with product syncing, ensure your products have prices in the same currency as your Mailchimp store.
