Using third-party software
Such as ThriveCart or Subbly.
Data Mapper for Mailchimp is designed to sync data directly between your Stripe account and your Mailchimp audience, relying on Stripe to host all relevant data, such as products, subscriptions, and customer details. Third-party software that processes payments or manages products outside of Stripe is not compatible with Data Mapper, as it cannot provide the detailed data required for effective syncing to Mailchimp.
Why Third-Party Software Is Incompatible
When third-party software is used, it typically sends only payment information to your Stripe account, without including critical details about the purchased products, subscriptions, or customer interactions. For example:
Payment-Only Data: Third-party platforms may record a transaction in Stripe as a payment but omit information about what was purchased, such as product names, quantities, or subscription details.
Data Ownership: Products, subscriptions, and other relevant data are often managed and stored within the third-party software, not in Stripe. Data Mapper cannot access this external data, limiting its ability to sync comprehensive information to your Mailchimp audience.
As a result, Data Mapper cannot migrate or sync meaningful data (e.g., purchase history, product details, or subscription status) to Mailchimp when third-party software is involved, rendering the integration ineffective.
Stripe and Mailchimp Store Requirements
For Data Mapper to function correctly, all products and subscriptions must be created and hosted within Stripe, and they must align with the following requirements for syncing to a Mailchimp store:
1:1 Mapping: There must be a direct, one-to-one relationship between your Stripe account and the Mailchimp store created during Data Mapper setup. All products synced to Mailchimp must originate from the connected Stripe account.
Currency Consistency: Each product in Stripe must have a price that matches the default currency of your Stripe account. For example, if your Stripe account operates in USD, all product prices must be in USD. The Mailchimp store will also adopt this currency (e.g., USD), ensuring consistency across platforms.
Stripe-Hosted Data: Products, subscriptions, invoices, and other data must be fully managed within Stripe. Data Mapper relies on Stripe’s infrastructure to access and transfer details like product names, prices, and customer purchase events to Mailchimp.
Without these conditions met, Data Mapper cannot sync data to your Mailchimp audience, as it lacks the necessary information to populate the store or update customer records.
Implications of Using Third-Party Software
Using third-party software to manage products or subscriptions outside of Stripe will prevent Data Mapper from syncing critical data to Mailchimp. This includes:
No Product or Subscription Syncing: Since third-party platforms hold product and subscription data, Data Mapper cannot access or transfer this information to Mailchimp.
Limited Audience Insights: Without product or purchase details, you cannot segment your Mailchimp audience based on customer behavior or trigger automations based on specific purchases.
Incomplete Store Setup: The Mailchimp store requires Stripe-hosted products to function. Payments alone, as provided by third-party software, are insufficient to populate the store or enable syncing.
Recommendations
To ensure full compatibility with Data Mapper for Mailchimp:
Host All Data in Stripe: Create and manage all products, subscriptions, and customer data directly in your Stripe account.
Verify Currency Settings: Confirm that all product prices in Stripe match the default currency of your Stripe account, which will align with the Mailchimp store currency during setup.
Avoid Third-Party Dependencies: Use Stripe’s native tools for product and subscription management instead of relying on external platforms that only send payment data to Stripe.
By keeping all relevant data within Stripe, you enable Data Mapper to sync customer details, purchase history, and event data seamlessly to your Mailchimp audience, supporting effective segmentation and automated marketing campaigns.
